Policy in Action – Participation and Delivery

£675.00

Course Overview

How do you turn a community concern into a credible policy proposal—and then make sure the resulting programme delivers? This practical one-day course takes you through the steps from public participation and policy development to stakeholder engagement, implementation and evaluation.

It is designed for government and political staff in the UK and overseas, including policy officers, parliamentary staff, political advisers, public administrators and people responsible for community engagement or programme delivery.

You will learn how to gather and use community insight, assess policy options, build constructive relationships and plan the work needed to achieve measurable results. The course uses practical exercises that can be adapted to different communities and systems of government.

Why Attend?

  • Connect policy with public priorities: Develop meaningful ways to hear from communities, including people whose views may be overlooked.
  • Move from proposal to delivery: Learn how to assess options, assign responsibilities and plan realistic implementation.
  • Show what has changed: Set milestones and measures that help you evaluate progress and account for results.

Course Highlights:

  1. Make Participation Meaningful – Explore ways for people to contribute to decisions, understand how their views will be used and receive feedback on what happened next.
  2. Understand Communities and Their Priorities – Identify local needs, reach underrepresented groups and build relationships that support continued engagement and community development.
  3. Develop Credible Policy Options – Bring together evidence and public insight, compare possible responses and make recommendations that can be put into practice.
  4. Communicate and Engage Stakeholders – Map the people and organisations involved, explain your proposal clearly, build support and respond constructively to questions or concerns.
  5. Plan and Manage Delivery – Set project milestones, assign ownership, identify risks and decide how results will be measured. In a practical workshop, you will develop a draft policy and programme delivery plan based on a priority issue.
