Pioneering Devolved Governance Training Since 2007!
Back in 2007, while most were still adjusting to the new political landscape of devolution, we launched one of the very first public affairs training courses focused on the Scottish Parliament, Northern Ireland Assembly, and Welsh Assembly (now Senedd).
At a time when many overlooked the significance of devolved governments, Parli-training recognised the need for specialist institutional training to equip public affairs professionals with the skills to navigate and influence these new political arenas. Our commitment wasn’t just to keep pace but to lead, establishing the longest-running and most trusted courses on devolved governance in the UK.
Fast forward to 2025, and Parli-training continues to innovate and expand its offerings. We’re proud to announce the launch of a standalone course dedicated to lobbying the Welsh Parliament — a natural evolution reflecting the growing importance of the Senedd in shaping UK policy.
The true advantage for any organisation lies in mastering the complexities of all four nations’ political systems. Understanding how different institutional campaigns create a pivot for the next allows for more effective coordination and influence across the UK. This multi-nation expertise provides a powerful foundation for driving meaningful policy shifts — a key reason why Parli-training’s courses remain essential for public affairs professionals aiming to lead change at every level.
Case Study of successful: Mind’s Strategic Campaign Success from Wales to Westminster
Mind, the UK’s leading mental health charity, has a long history of advocating for better mental health services across all four nations. Early on, Mind Wales tailored its campaigning efforts to the specific powers and priorities of the Welsh Parliament (Senedd). By engaging closely with Welsh policymakers, Mind successfully influenced the introduction of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, which significantly improved mental health services and support in Wales.
This early success created a strong foundation and valuable insights that Mind then leveraged at the UK-wide level. Drawing on their Welsh campaign experience, Mind effectively shaped policy discussions at Westminster, contributing to landmark legislation such as the Mental Health Act reforms and securing increased funding commitments for mental health services across England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Mind’s journey exemplifies how mastering devolved governance campaigns in one nation can pave the way for broader UK-wide policy influence, demonstrating the critical advantage of understanding and navigating the distinct political landscapes across all four nations.
